Phoenix Mountain Mosque is located in the outskirt area 6 kilometers north of Chengdu. The mosque is nestled in the mountain which is shaped like a phoenix. Hence the name.
The mosque was originally a cemetery for the Hui people opened in 1952, and most of the muslins in Chengdu are buried here after they passed away. Later a mosque is established on this burial ground to supply better religious services to the muslin community in Chengdu.
