Charm of Tuosu Lake in Qinghai

6/29/2014 Young Sights Qinghai 2064
"Tuosu" is a Mongolian term for the Butter Lake. Tuosu Lake is the typical inland saltwater lake. There's a vast expanse of the mostly unpopulated gravel floodplain around the largest lake. Around the gravel floodplain is sparsely-populated land with high temperatures all year round and large evaporated quantity of water, thus there's the high salt content in the water, aquatic animals and plants, floating animals and plants are much scarcer.

Since that the weather around Tuosu Lake is very hot, the lake loses a lot of water in the air, yet it is an outstanding laboratory for the study of plant and animal communities. Tuosu Lake is brackish and contains many small rugged islands and endemic species. Since that it has a very high degree of salt density and only a few creatures can live in it.

Up on Tuosu Lake, you have left the heat of the Gobi far behind, while the cool breath of the Tuosu Lake comes to you as fresh as the spring breeze. The dreary vastness of clear water twisted its way across this dry and thirsty floodplain, strongly reflecting the white sunlight. The gleams of sunlight that rested on the broader parts of the lake were as of a few scattered pieces of silver marked the windings of the great lake. The great stretch of open lakeshore view was stupendous.

When visitors gather on the Tuosu Lake on the day of the tidal bore, initially they will enjoy an amazing view of a most tranquil scene with the river flowing leisurely and placidly with some seagulls soaring gracefully in the distance. When the storm abates and the waves calm down, the smooth surface of the lake is a vast expanse of misty and rolling waters.

The blue sky is mirrored in the crystal clear lake, forming one integrated mass and creating a magnificent display of spectacular grandeur. It keeps up with the twists and turns of the torrents of the lake when the vast transformation sky is taking place. There's also the flood tide when turbulent waves send spray spitting in every direction. The current would flap heavily at irregular intervals against the lakeshore, moving the spirit.

Tuosu Lake belongs to desert or semi-desert continental climate with warm weather and little rainfall in the summer seasons. Apart from the sparse reeds at the entrance of the lake, and a small quantity of plankton organisms within the lake, few water grasses that were writhing and nosing with the current could come into view.

There were planted with a few scattered strange willows and some other rare trees. At the beginning of the spring, the Bird Island in the middle of Tuosu Lake almost clusters the brown-headed gulls, wild ducks and many other precious birds. Bird Island of the Tuosu Lake occupies an area of 1 square kilometer.

There're thousands of birds flying through the lush and verdant landscape of the island. There were nests teeming with the whole length of the island where were heavy with the bluebird's eggs. Bird Island appeared to have become a sanctuary.
