Shaanxi Historical Museum is located in Yanta district of Xi’an. Covering an area of 6n. With the concept of stressing the glorious age of Tang dynasty, the museum is composed wi5,000 square meters, the collection of the museum is more than 37,000,0 pieces, from simple stone tools in ancient times to all kinds of items in 1,840 years ago. Before stepping in, the look of the museum is already grabbing everyone’s abstention a central hall and quadrangle building sets.

 

The exhibition gallery is divided into several parts, prologue hall, basic exhibition, themed exhibition, temporary exhibition and central hall. In recent years, they added some high-tech exhibition halls which makes the whole trip even more interesting. The prologue hall is located in the front of central hall, with a huge stone lion lying there and giant pictures of surging Yellow River and The Loess Plateau, showing the visitors the brilliant ancient culture in this area.


 

Taking historical line as a guide and setting scenes from different ages, visitors can get a closer look of the development of ancient society in Shaanxi province. The first exhibition hall: First unit is called Saying Goodbye to Chimps, telling the story of the origin of human beings. In 1964, archaeologist discovered a Lantian Ape Man in Lantian county, which was known as the earliest homo erectus the northern Asia. According to the expert, the unearthed skull was belong to a 30-year-old female.There also exhibits some bone ornaments like necklaces and stone balls, most of them are made from fish bones.

 

The second unit is Phoenix Singing on Qi Mountain, showing the rich historical relics of Western Zhou Dynasty.As the symbol of West Zhou, tons of Ding were excavated in the area. Firstly used as a pot for stewing meat, but as the development of feudalism, Ding gradually became the symbol of authority and social class. The third is Empires of the East, displaying Terracotta Warriors in Qin dynasty.


The second exhibition hall called “The vigorous Tang Dynasty”,  mainly exhibiting some typical items from the Tang period. The fifth unit is called “The Great Mix”, representing the amalgamation of nationalities and how the Buddhism was spreaded in Shanxi province. It might sound a lot to visit, as a matter of fact, this is only a tip of iceberg in the museum. You really have to take your time and admire those amazing historical items.
