Flower Paradise in Wuyuan

3/31/2014 Yan Tours Wuyuan 1824
Wuyuan is an ancient town located in northeast Jiangxi Province which has a magnificent landscape dotted with strange caces, deep secluded rocks and numerous historic sites. It is rich in countryside beauty and cultural and ecological value. Wuyuan has been known as “the Hometown of Books” and “the Hometown of Tea.” It has even been honored as “the Most Beautiful Countryside in China” by the media at home and abroad. Visiting Wuyuan on April tends to be more surprising, since rape flowers blossoms everywhere.

For decades, Wuyuan County is famous for its extraordinary "four colors": red, green, black and white, which refer to the four special products in Wuyuan, respectively, Hebao Carp (literally Pouch Carp), green plant in Wuyuan, dragon-tail ink-stone and Jiang Wan Pear. However, around the Tomb-Sweeping Day, millions of blooming rape flowers will definitely make yellow the fifth color.

Wuyuan County is home to some of the best-preserved ancient architecture in China. Each of the numerous buildings has a distinctive shape and structure. They emerge from among the emerald green mountains, clear rivers and the crisscrossing paths between the fields. Virtually every village has something special to offer, often some tiny but unique feature that can stop you in your tracks and positively beg to be photographed. What are most attractive are the well-protected ancient villages of the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1636–1911) Dynasties as well as the pastoral landscape. The ancient town of Jiangwan with a history of 1000 years is one of the main attractions. It is the hometown of China’s former president, Jiang Zemin.

Jiangwan was first built in the late Sui Dynasty (581–618) and early Tang Dynasty (618–907) over 1000 years ago. In the year 1079 in the Northern Song Dynasty (920–1127), Jiang Di moved there with his families and gradually an extended family came into being. It is surrounded by mountains and rivers. With good natural and cultural environment, a number of talented personages were born and grew up there, bringing Wuyuan fame as the “the Hometown of Books”. As the first 4A-class scenic area (4A is the highest level in attraction rating in China), it possesses many ancient architecture of Hui-style (Hui is short for Anhui Province. Hui style building is characteristic for its white walls and grey tiles) including Sansheng Hall, Dunchong Hall, the archaic house of Ten Families. Other attractions in this area include Xiao Jiang Ancestral Hall, the Memorial Hall of Jiang Yong, Nanguan Pavilion, and Seven Star Well. All and a few more are high in historical and aesthetic value.

The Likeng tourist area is famous for the harmony of little bridge, flowing brook and its cottages. The village is embraced by mountains and enjoys splendid scenery.

The Xiaoqi tourist area is reputed as the ecological residential area. Next to age-old trees are the houses of various heights; near and far mountains are dim in the setting sun; mist floats on the tips of the trees like a transparent ribbon; rivers flows out of the village in a circle as if the village is a girl wearing a bracelet. You can fully appreciate its elegant residential area, wristed lane, bluestone road and towering age-old trees. What’s more, Wuyuan has the Ancestral Hall of Yu Family in the Wangkou tourist area, a cultural relic unit under the state protection, covering an area of over 1000 square meters. It is renowned as “the art gallery” for its grand architecture, well-designed layout, superb craftsmanship, and unique characteristics.

Visiting Wuyuan is a great spiritual experience more than just a tour. The mountains are decorated with red azaleas; the hills are covered by green tea plants and golden blooming rape flowers.

When the colors of nature meet the white wall and black tile, a harmonious picture comes into being.
