Chengde West Mosque is one of the two major mosques in Chengde, Hebei Province. Located in Panjiagou Road, it was first built in Qing Emperor Daoguang-era. The Mosque encompasses 3 entrance hall, 5 lecture halls and 20 large audience hall. Despite of the destruction and refurbishment it has undergone, the main hall of the mosque has been retain to the greatest extend.
All of its structure compound carry hallmark blend of Islamic hues and traditional Chinese style. A plague hanging inside the center of the worship hall reads a wise sentence from Koran in vigorous calligraphy. The whole worship hall is supported by several exposed pillars with patterns in bright colors. On top of the hall stands the Moon Gazing Pavilion of which Baoding, a building component which protects pointed pillars from rainwater etching, is of typical Arabic style; while the ornament sunk panel (Zaojin) exhibits classic Chinese architecutural techinique. At distance, the glass Baoding glitters under sunlight, which makes the whole mosque stands out from the surrounding.
