Guizhou: an Arcadia on the Edge of Time

One would bother racking his brains when naming the most sought tourist destination area in China, but never hesitate which is the undisturbed one: Guizhou Province in southwest China. Low-key as it is, it was, you might not think, one of the only two Chinese labels (the other is Hangzhou) on New York Times 2016 "Places to Go". The most awarding destinations in Guizhou concentrate in Guiyang, Anshun, Qiandongnan, Qiannan, and Qianxinan.

Guiyang

Guiyang is a city that one needs to see to believe. Fairly rare that the landscape in downtown parks are 100% natural. The city is situated on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, in relatively lower area. This bestowed the city with all merits of plateau climate, be it fresh air and year-around mild temperature while free from altitude stress. High speed bullet trains has enhance the accessibility of Guiyang, which had been a main obstacle to boost local tourism.

Qingyan Ancient Town

Anshun

Anshun, despite the low profile name, accommodates Guizhou tourism's focal point , Huangguoshu Waterfall. Besides this Asia-top waterfall,  Anshun has a plenty of more to offer. It accommodates the most spectacular Karst landscape, Dragon Palace Karst Cave, as well as archeological treasure, Tun Bu village and batik handcrafting heritage.

Adjacent to Huangguoshu Waterfall, the scenic area encompasses four main spots. The most highlighting one is the 9-mile Underground River Karst Cave which register the longest one in the country. It features steep cliffs and jagged limestone forest.


Tianlong Tun Bu Village

In this Ming-era village inhabited by Han people, one may marvel at the time-honored structure which were built with stone and wood only. To this day, villagers wear Ming-era long robe and perform Junnuo, a form of dancing on sacrificing ceremony in ancient times.

Qiandongnan

Qiandongnan is a Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture in southeast Guizhou. Its pristine towns with untouched highland minority customs make for an ideal getaway destination.


Xijiang Miao Village

This largest Miao ethnic village in the country is Guizhou tourism's name card. This natural downfold engulfed by mountains are dotted with over 1000 Miao households loom in humid mist. Hues of intact Miao ethnic culture can be observed from stilt houses, delicate Miao costume, singing and dancing.

Qiannan

Qiannan Bouyei and and Miao Autonomous Prefecture had remained anonymous till its Libo Karst Scenic Spot was included by UNESCO as a World Heritage, the very first of Guizhou, in 2007.

Libo Karst Scenic Spot enjoys a reputation as a fairyland botanic garden. One highlight in Libo, Xiaoqikong Scenic Area blends factors like mountains, lakes, forests, ponds and waterfalls with mysterious ethnic touch.

Qianxinan

Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture lies in the junction of Guizhou, Sichuan, and Yunan. It, therefore develops a mixed style in customs and food.


Ten-Thousand-Peak Forest

At distance, it looks like emerald peaks, over 2000 in total, inlaid on an enormous piece of brocade filled with rice field and sea of flowers. The locals live a idyllic life without time clocks.  In spring days, sea of rape flowers affords a captivating view for visitors. As he meander through the field, one will have the whole place to himself.
