Beautiful Namjagbarwa

Namjagbarwa is one of the most famous mountains of the world not only for its height, but also for its beautiful and mysterious. It stands inside the Great Bend of the Yarlung Zangbo River as the river enters notable canyon across the Himalaya. In Tibetan, Namjagbarwa means a "long lance piercing into the sky". Namjagbarwa with majestic appearance always has been an ambitious aim to the mountaineers of the world. It totally has night peaks, all of them are very tall with the altitude of more than 6000 meters while the tallest peak has 7782 meters.



Located in the southeast of Tibet, Namjagbarwa is also the tallest mountain in Nyingchi, a very beautiful region of Tibet. Since Namjagbarwa is the holy mountain of Tibetan and has the precipitous shape and unpredictable climate, no one can conquer its peak until a Sino-Japanese climbing team reached in 1992.

Namjagbarwa is also full of magical legend because of its main peak is towering. Local people always think there must live gods there. It is also said that a road to the top of the mountain with the real heaven in there. So when look at Namjagbarwa, local people always show much respect to this holy mountain.



The mountain and canyon form the Namjagbarwa Scenic Zone, which has high tourism value. It is really an ideal place for tourism, mountain-climbing, exploring, drifting on the rivers, and making the researches and investigations for its special geography and biology.

Namjagbarwa is often surrounded by lots of changeable clouds makes it more fascinating. A legend goes that two brothers were assigned to protect the southeastern area of Tibet but the elder brother was immoral. He envied his younger brother who was stronger and smarter than him so much and he killed him at last. He cut off the head of his brother. When god known all about these he was very angry for what the elder brother have done. So the god punished both of them turned into mountains afterwards. After the punishment by god, the elder brother began to regret for his crime. He felt very ashamed to meet people. The name of the elder brother is called Namjagbarwa which the same name as the famous mountain. That’s why now we can see Namjabarwa always too shy to come out from the clouds.



It is said that if someone who has chance to see the whole Namjagbarwa can brings very good fortunate for himself. Therefore, it becomes one of the must sceneries people who come to Tibet for travelling.
